The FASTForward Blog » Research on the Use of Social Software in the Workplace from IBM
A few notes from IBM’s research:
- Within a protected environment, employees choose to reach out to new people rather than only connecting to those they know.
- Motivations for this are: desire to interact with colleagues on a personal level; career advancement; seeking support for projects and ideas.
- Offer more information & seek to present themselves professionally.
- The more intensely someone uses the tool, the higher their reported social capital. Greater willingness to contribute to the company, greater interest in connecting globally, greater access to new people, greater ability to access expertise.
