David Brooks: “The Social Animal” at TED

Author and New York Times columnist David Brooks suggests we should embrace some new concepts in the way we think and how we relate to each other:

mindsight - empathy into what others are thinking.
equipoise - serenity in reading our overconfidence and biases.
metus - sensitivity to the physical environment.
sympathy - ability to work within face-to-face groups through non-verbal communication.
blending - a new fusion of two different ideas.
limerince - the ability to find moments of transcendence.

I doubt the terms will catch on any time soon, but I still think his analysis is interesting and useful, and that those characteristcs can be identified, developed and encouraged.
