Hmm…television is bad, ‘kay?

I was sitting in the living room on Saturday morning watching telly with little Lucas and the adverts came on. There were about 10 different emotions in half as many minutes. And I thought: no one is thinking about TV advertising collectively - it’s just a random series of rapid-fire audio/visual presentations, each designed to provoke a strong emotional response. But what is it *collectively* doing to Lukie’s emotional circuitry? Up, down, up, down, up, down…. What does the ground feel like to someone who’s spent all day on a roller-coaster? Or at sea? How will he feel when he’s alone with himself when he’s older? Will he be able to listen to his own emotions at all? Or will he just desperately want to change the channel?
